The stealing word might be a little over the top, but I couldn't think of anything else this early... I went to the UPS store yesterday to mail a care box to my son and a couple envelopes with 20 photos inide each. I had previously mailed the same number of photos to a friend at the P.O. = Post Office where they weighed and measured and tested the envelope to make sure it fit through the scanner slot which it did. Same envelope, same number of photos.... The young woman gave me the grand total which seemed outrageous. My mind recalled the box was only $15 to send, so what in the world of UPS, cost me $21 more dollars? I looked a the receipt and frowned and then inquired as to a possible error. "No error," replied the young woman. I said, $3.90 cents to mail one envelope? (And I had two!) "That's Utterly Perposterous Robbery!" I said. Then I politely, to make up for my outburst regarding robbery, asked for a refund due to the fact I could mail it (them) for .62 cents at the P.O. = Post Office. Which I did. Do not ever mail letters at the UPS Store...
they have silent guns out to steal your hard earned money flow. And so they can have Latte's on your dollars...when you don't have Latte's!

Their Public Display of Affection
I knew it was Spring. The weatherman told me, the temperature changed considerably, the brown and gray snow melted, I got my car washed, my calendar stated SPRING, and most of all the birds started making all sort of noises. I'm talking serious noises, not peepy peepers, but coo-ing, calling, chirping, squeeking, purring, and whispering softly then shrilling loudly. Basically they are communicating with such beauty it amazes me. I never noticed this until last year....maybe I was selfish? Or rather busy living a superficial life devoid of the enjoyment of this public display of affection going on around me. No wonder people watch birds. Not that I am going that far, but at least now I understand totally. They are precious little beings of life with their own way of doing it, life that is, as well as the other "thing." I noticed today the little critters are sitting on ledges, wires, trees, bushes, eves, and everywhere and anywhere else you can think of... sitting seperately calling out to one another with such eloquence and perfection of tone. I only wish I could understand their language. We humans could stand some lessons regarding how to display our affection and love for one another with the respect the birds do. Yet I suspect their tiny lives are no different than our big ones. Filled with the daily ups and downs as we all know our own way of living them, the ups and downs that is. I rarely see a bird get run over by a car.....or hospitals full of birds, or the med flight coming and going 7 times in one day like I saw today. Or birds standing in line at to make a deposit of money, or birds sitting at computers pecking away! The only time I see an equal comparison between birds and humans is fighting Blackbirds and road rage human drivers!Nasty!Or maybe the serial killer Blue Jays. Back to point.... I wonder what the birds do all day after mating and children season ends. Do they retire? Maybe that is why God's Bible says, "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" So if I am more valuable than the birds, can I have a new mattress and car, and a duplex, and and and.....thanks!! Oh, and then can I retire too?

The Drunken Street Preacher by T Wieland Allen
This is a true story written by my friend and mentor Tommye Allen of Muskogee Oklahoma...yes she's an Okie alright... I just had to share a part of it.
While in San Francisco recently we had an interesting experience. We heard a street preacher who was inebriated, but still he was talking about God and his marvelous ways. No words of hell, fire and damnation came from his mouth, only kind, loving words.
How the event played out was that several of us were watching our daughters, sons and in our case our granddaughter at soccer practice in a park. We were sitting on benches and enjoying the antics of three and four year old children doing soccer drills.
Suddenly out of nowhere an unkempt man approached the spectators and asked us a strange question, "Do you think it would be offensive if I smoke a cigarette out here in the park in the sight of the children?" What a gracious question to ask. He seemed genuinely concerned about smoking where the children could see him.
We all assured him that it was fine with all of us if he smoked because he was certainly far enough away so that the children wouldn't be subjected to the smoke. He wandered off and sat on a bench about 25 feet from us. He walked unsteadily, staggering a bit, and it was very obvious that he was under the influence of some form of alcohol. He plopped himself down on the adjacent bench and lit a cigarette. He watched intently as the soccer coach led the children in their drills. Then he would gaze admiringly at the spectators as we cheered every accurate kick of the ball, while we laughed and talked among ourselves.
After a few minutes the man staggered back into our sight and began his preaching. He told us that the children were very blessed to have parents and grandparents who encourage them and treasure them. He added that the soccer coach will be blessed mightily by God because she is teaching children valuable lessons that will benefit them in life. Then he quoted the scripture, "Whatsoever you do to the least of these My children, you do to Me." And he told us that the young soccer coach was right in the center of God's will because she was speaking kindly and lovingly to the children, so she will be blessed.
I became very impressed by the man's knowledge of the Bible at this point.
He went on to say that he didn't have any admiration from parents or other adults as a child and he is delighted to see that there are children who have a foundation of love, that it will give them a stability in their lives that he never had.
Then the sermon preached by the drunken man switched subjects to what happened in the Garden of Edan when satan tempted Adam. He made it clear that Eve influenced Adam, but that Adam was the one who was responsible for allowing satan to enter the earth. He went on to talk about problems between men and women and how the problems affect families.
My thoughts were that this man has more revelation than a lot of preachers who were standing in pulpits that day preaching to an auditorium full of people.
Quickly the sermon switched subjects again. It began to be apparent that some people in our group of spectators were getting weary of listening to him and trying to watch the children at the same time. The new subject of his sermon came in the form of a testimony. He began to tell us about his alcoholism. He testified that hard liquor had ruined his life. He said that God is gracious and kind, that He has taken away the desire for hard liquor. The man said the desire for the taste of hard liquor is completely gone. Then he confessed that the desire for the taste for beer is still with him, but he is trusting God to take away the taste for beer, that he only drinks a few beers every day. My husband and I encouraged him, agreeing that God will complete the work He began.
The other spectators were very edgy by this time, so my husband gently told the man that we were pleased for him, but if he didn't mind that we really wanted to devote all of our attention to watching the children in their soccer pursuits.
The drunken street preacher apologized profusely with genuine humility for taking up our time, but he did want us to know how God helps him personally.
He reiterated that God will bless the soccer coach for her kindness to children, that the children are blessed by having loving parents and grandparents, and that we will all be blessed by God for bringing up the children with love and respect and kindness.
The kind gentleman staggered back to his bench and resumed watching the soccer practice.
He secretly drank from a can of beer discretely concealed within a paper sack, I'm sure to conceal it from the sight of the children.
As soccer practice ended, the man rose from his bench and staggered deeper into the park toward the area where homeless people sleep. We all watched him with what I'm sure were varied emotions, some with relief that he was gone. One of the moms said that all the parents chuckle at the fact that the "crazies" in the park never come out unless out of town grandparents are visiting soccer practice. All the other parents agreed.
My husband and I told them that we weren't bothered in any manner, that we were impressed with his knowledge of the Bible, his revelation knowledge and his gentile nature.
As we rose from our benches to leave the park the kids began running and playing together, and the parents were discussing the schedule for the next practice. My husband and I walked slowly away and joined hands and quietly prayed that God would complete the work that He has begun in that wonderful man, asking that God will completely take away the taste for all alcoholic beverages in an instant, and that the man will be completely whole again with a revelation of how much God loves him and honors him, even in his present addiction. That's the way God works, he looks beyond the outer man with its imperfections. God sees the inner man and his needs.
I know God is blessing the street preacher who spoke Truth to us in loving words, even with slurred speech and unsteady legs. God spoke through an ass one time to Balaam. God spoke kind words to us through a drunken street person, a homeless man who was fighting his own personal demons.
God is a Good Father and He will see that the man wins his battle. We have asked God to do that for that lonely man who is surely one of the people Jesus spoke about who are "poor in spirit" and said that "theirs is the Kingdom of God." Jesus also said whatever two people agree and ask on earth, that God will do it so we know that God is giving that man the desires of his heart, completely taking away his addiction,
That drunken street preacher may become another Paul, sent to preach freedom to other captives of alcohol and drugs who have been rejected by their families, who gather together in the park with other troubled lonely people in an effort to form a semblance of a family.
The drunken street preacher certainly blessed me and I know God is blessing him.

Grendel, Major and Love

OK so I love this dog! This dog is not my dog. He belongs to a client of mine therefore I see him twice a month. And when I see him he cries and shakes like I am someone he once knew deeply and has missed dreadfully. Maybe its just the cheap milkbone biscuits I bring him, but I dont think so. It's over the top. Look into those eyes and tell me this isnt a very special animal. Actually I bring him extra treats, brush him when my time allows, throw his tennis ball as far as I can considering I really have what they call a "girl throw." I love this dog! I wish I could babysit him sometime, but I have a little do da day 6 pounder that Grendel just might step on accidentally. And a cat that could end up a big fur ball, or vice versa! I am just happy to see him a couple times a month. As for the title of this blogpost... Major was a good friend of mine back in the 70's....I miss him and his unconditional love and Grendel fills that "dead," sad, memorable, good space for me.Saturday, March 13, 2010
"Looks Like I Got A Tiger by the Tail"....NOT

I wish I could sing like Barbara Streisand or even just better. I wish I could run a marathon, well maybe not. I wish I could knit and crochet like my friend Barbara Mullally.... I wish I could have peace, real peace so I could finish my book, books. I wish I handled life better. I wish my face would stop wrinkling all up. I wish I could eat anything I wanted or least enough to keep me going better. I wish I had known more about business and finances. I wish I had never gotten married three times. (read on so I can fix these wishes).... I wish I had sex with (I am definitely laughing behind the scenes here) Buck Owens that day.... I wish I had more children. I wish I had no fears. I wish God really could heal without my help. I am laughing again...because you know, God helps he/she who helps them/him/herself. In other words, fix it yourself... He will lead, guide, and comfort while you do. THE END of wishes for today.
I can sing and pretty good since I gave up the cigarettes thank me...and the God that guided me, thank thee. I used to run 6 miles a day, but I didn't like it so marathons are out of the question or desire or wish. I don't like sitting too long so knitting is out, but I sooo appreciate all those that can create such works of art with those two huge long pretty chop sticks. I do have peace by the way, but I wish for more time to finish and write. As for handling life...I do, I have, I will, cause if I hadn't I wouldn't be here along with a few others that may have gone down, I prefer the word out, with me. My face is a product of too much laughing that most don't appreciate. I do! And I do eat most anything I want. I just have to stop and cut back on occasion for a couple weeks...then go again within reason. Too late on the business and finance thing...now God better come thru. As for being married three times...wouldn't have had the five precious children! None from the last one thank God again. Buck Owens...omg....so glad I messed that up huh? I could have been swinging from the hee haw swing set or somewhere. And children...I do have children...many of them I meet everyday and hope to meet more of. Fears....we all have them. Except I don't believe the religious fanatics who say if I loved God more I wouldn't have any! Get real....Get out of here.... I do love God and he loves me and no one will tell me different whether I have fears or not. So God...thanks for all my wishes that have come true. Except I cant stop and bury every little critter I pass on the roads that is curled up all alone and dead, after being run over by a hit and run driver who never knew it. I always tell them, as I pass, how sorry I am. I read a story about a man who stopped and buried an owl after it had been run over.... years later that man was saved from death at the exact spot he buried that owl... RESPECT of life and being thankful for even our mistakes. Cause there "aint nothin" going on at the cemetery. Or maybe there is and we just cant see it. Whoa..... I shall go to bed tonight thinking on what I wish and am....all good.

My New Red Coat

Hey, I haven't bought myself a new coat since 1994...wait, I bought one at J.C.Penney's in 2003! I had seen the one I wanted at the Boston Store about a month ago at a very pricey price of $280.00 which was ridiculous. The past couple days it came back to my mind so I made a little pit stop at the mally mall today....went to the escalator, up to the coat dept. which had dwindled to a small corner of the upstairs and there it was! The sign said $69.95. I said, "Let me at it!" The only one left was a large, but I noticed if I moved the buttons over I would be fine and still be able to get a sweater under it. I am so happiness! A new red coat and better yet, its in style, even better yet, no one else has ever wore it but me. When a "lady" somehow ends up raising all her children alone and working a couple or so jobs, she usually gets the second hand coats. Oh nothing like Dolly's "my coat of many colors" of course. And by the way I was wearing my new red Clarks shoes that are supposed to be walking the streets of L.A. I'm OK!! Then I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and purchased an inexpensive THICK mattress cover. Inexpensive because none of them are washable!! Why pay hundreds for something that cannot be cleaned. $44 smoothie and a new red coat all in one day. I am so lucky.... not to mention how well I shall sleep tonight.

OK I'm Back!

I am a person that likes to take pictures. Pictures of bugs, people, flowers, my dog, and most everything else. I even take pictures of furniture inside stores....and storefront windows, also the creative porches and decks people decorate seasonally. I don't have a fancy camera....its a Canon Sure Shot digital 7 point something and it works great. I tried to take a closeup picture of a spider, but no way was I going to get that close for a close up! And I do not have one of those honkin' big black long lens's. So that leaves out the spiders for now...and the bird closeups that can be pretty amazing. Guess my fav's are the pictures of items I would like to have but either do not have enough rooms for them or they cost the moon or I really don't need them, just like to think on them. For instance flower shops and their displays, or unique small gift shops that sell furniture and zillions of accessories. If I find a picture of something I adore I will put it up as my screen saver....that is always fun. Its like it is mine and I keep it for a while then move it to a save file until whenever... My little fantasy world without fairies...although I love to take pictures of fairies! Maybe I should turn my little hobby into online greeting cards for others.... I get allot of great ideas....that seem to just stay in my head. Least they are happy ideas in my head...
