GUIDE TO HIRING WOMEN
I dont usually copy and paste other peoples blogs but this one is worth every effort and quite the read.
Enjoy!

New post on I choose how I will spend the rest of my life

6943

by judithhb
A friend copied this and passed it on to me as he thought I might get a laugh from reading it. I hope you will too.
This purports to be from the July 1943 issue of Mass Transportation Magazine written for male supervisors during the Second World War.
"Eleven Tips on Getting More Efficiency Out of Women Employees
There's no longer any question whether transit companies should hire women for jobs formerly held by men. The draft and manpower shortage has settled that point. The important things now are to select the most efficient women available and how to use them to the best advantage. Here are eleven helpful tips on the subject from western properties:
1. If you can get them, pick young married women. They have these advantages, according to the reports of western companies: they usually have more of a sense of responsibility than do their unmarried sisters; they're less likely to be flirtatious; as a rule, they need the work or they wouldn't be doing it — maybe a sick husband or one who's in the army; they still have the pep and interest to work hard and to deal with the public efficiently.
2. When you have to use older women, try to get ones who have worked outside the home at some time in their lives. Most transportation companies have found that older women who have never contacted the public, have a hard time adapting themselves, are inclined to be cantankerous and fussy. It's always well to impress upon older women the importance of friendliness and courtesy.
3. While there are exceptions, of course, to this rule, general experience indicates that "husky" girls — those who are just a little on the heavy side — are likely to be more even-tempered and efficient than their underweight sisters.
4. Retain a physician to give each woman you hire a special physical examination — one covering female conditions. This step not only protects the property against the possibilities of lawsuit but also reveals whether the employee-to-be has any female weaknesses which would make her mentally or physically unfit for the job. Transit companies that follow this practice report a surprising number of women turned down for nervous disorders.
5. In breaking in women who haven't previously done outside work, stress at the outset the importance of time — the fact that a minute or two lost here and there makes serious inroads on schedules. Until this point is gotten across, service is likely to be slowed up.
6. Give the female employe in garage or office a definite day-long schedule of duties so that she'll keep busy without bothering the management for instructions every few minutes. Numerous properties say that women make excellent workers when they have their jobs cut out for them but that they lack initiative in finding work themselves.
7. Whenever possible, let the inside employe change from one job to another at some time during the day. Women are inclined to be nervous and they're happier with change.
8. Give every girl an adequate number of rest periods during the day. Companies that are already using large numbers of women stress the fact that you have to make some allowances for feminine psychology. A girl has more confidence and consequently is more efficient if she can keep her hair tidied, apply fresh lipstick and wash her hands several times a day.
9. Be tactful in issuing instructions or in making criticisms. Women are often sensitive; they can't shrug off harsh words the way that men do. Never ridicule a woman — it breaks her spirit and cuts her efficiency.
10. Be reasonably considerate about using strong language around women. Even though a girl's husband or father may swear vociferously, she'll grow to dislike a place of business where she hears too much of this.
11. Get enough size variety in operator uniforms that each girl can have a proper fit. This point can't be stressed too strongly as a means of keeping women happy, according to western properties."
Was this really published in 1943? We have seen many such items and I have fallen for some and have even blogged about them only to find out later that these claims were in fact not true. While we know that in the 1940s women in the workplace were almost universally under valued and patronised we still find it hard to believe that such an item could be published in a recognised trade magazine
So I Googled our trusty friend snopes.com and found out that this was indeed written by L H Sanders and did appear in the 1943 edition of the magazine that was widely circulated at the time.
Now look at the eleven hints - which is your favourite? I can imagine the uproar that would ensue if any company considered hint 4. And I do like hint 8 as I feel much more confidant if I can keep my hair tidied, apply fresh lipstick and wash my hands several times a day.
Discussion at the Hospice last week, from whence came this photocopy, centred around the various hints and hint 3 the "Husky girls" came out as top choice among the staff.

Antique Red Toolbox..................by Diane Ogden

So this is an antique small red toolbox.  And it is mine.  Great love and thoughtfulness was put into this little red metal box.
You see I have lived alone for fourteen years.  I owned my own home, had several children and foster children living with me.  I did everything a man would have to do. Well most everything.   I was always borrowing a tool of some sort from my Dad,  Joe Junbluth.  Many children now and in past decades never had a Dad. My own Father's Father wasn't around much.  Many slither away like the standard snake in the grass after conception.   Back to my point....

One day my Dad, an old farmer, brought me that little read toolbox he took the time to fill just for me.  He couldn't give me a trust fund, or a new car, or a large red shiny tool chest with ten drawers.  But he gave me what he could.  His time.  He would run errands for me when I had no time to do them.  He would go to the kids school plays when no other family member did.  He would say please and thank you when he was never raised to do so.  He had an eighth grade education but studied on his own to learn to read and write better. He used to ask me how to spell things.  And he always put an e at the end of words.  Back to my point.  Or is this my point?  I guess as we grow, yes GROW (evolve)....we remember the small important things.  The little antique red tool box he put together especially for me twenty years ago plus.  I still have it you know?  It contains screwdrivers, pliers, crescent wrench, speckling putty knife, speckling compound, screws, nails, rubber hammer, hard hammer, those funny screwers, oh yeah, Allen wrenches!  Electrical tape, wire, tape measure, that balance wall thingy, and on and on.  Nothing fancy. The old down to earth tool box.  In his heart he wanted me to have a good man to take care of me when he was gone.  But that didn't happen in his lifetime, so he did what he could to help me have what I needed.  A little red toolbox filled with love. And all the errands he had time for.  He didn't know how to hug so well. He didn't know how to say I Love You so well. But he did it his way. You know, Like Frank. And today I remembered one of the best ways he showed it.  That beat up red tool box from his workshop.
He must be hangin close cause I have been very spiritual the past couple days.
I'll try to find something more funny and less serious tomorrow.....
Until then.....be safe, be happy, be well, and get rich because its easier is all.  Even if I was rich I wouldn't give up the Tool Box my Dad Joe made just for me, so my life could be a lil bit easier.

Wake up!.................... by Diane Ogden

You have heard it said over and over that you and I should
Be thankful,  write down our grateful lists, think positive, talk positive, be nice to everyone and so on and on and on.  Sometimes we ignore it all and go about our business.  In fact most times life is so busy we just keep moving.   No time for yoga, or simple sitting in a comfy chair and meditating, or getting ready on Sunday morning for a run to any church to give thanks.  I dislike preaching to others.  Rather I tend to mother everyone so here I go again.

I woke up with several particular unpleasant thoughts.  No I did not eat garlic before retiring.  I did not say expiring.  But that is what I saw.  I saw in my minds eye why I should be doing all the aforementioned things.  Being thankful, making gratitude lists, talking  positive, being kind and so on.

1- Somewhere someone is drowning
2- Somewhere some one's family home is burning to the ground
3- Somewhere a child is being kidnapped and harmed
4- Somewhere someone is on a breathing respirator
5- Somewhere a boat full of people is sinking
6- Somewhere there is a deadly avalanche
7- Somewhere a person is getting beat to death
8-Somewhere a dog is being misused
9-Somewhere a child is being beat up
10- Somewhere an earthquake swallowing people
11- Somewhere a car accident - all expired
12- Somewhere some one's Grandma is taking her last breath
and she wasn't finished living yet
13- Somewhere a soldier lay bleeding from loss of limb
14- Somewhere someone is receiving chemotherapy
16- Somewhere someone is in a ambulance
17- Somewhere someone is lost in a dense forest no way out
18- Somewhere someone is going into surgery not knowing they wont come out
19- Somewhere some one's house is being robbed
20- Somewhere a child found a gun and shoots it
22- Somewhere someone is being raped
23- Somewhere someone just got shot several times
24- Somewhere the family pet of many yearss is dying
25- Somewhere the family car engine blew and there is no money for another one
26- Somewhere people sleep outside as they are homeless
27- Somewhere someone is hungry
28-  Somewhere horrible things are happening!

But not to you and I.  I am thankful.  So BE HAPPY, BE WELL, BE SAFE, AND BE THANKFUL.

Shabby Chic Dream...............by Diane Ogden

Not so interesting to most.....but to me, yes.  Something I have wanted for many years and seems to be quite hard to find....   A Shabby Chic SlipCover that I am not equipped to make.

Other then that I was at a clients today and noticed a jar on her counter that said,  "Treasure Jar."  I noticed inside were artifacts from the 40's and 50's.  Tiny objects such as spool of thread, clothes pin, far animals like my borhter and I used to play with in teh early 50's.  And much more sweet memorabilia.

Besides the sweet memorabilia....I have another dream.  May we call my blog a sort of "Dream Board."  Because it is.  This small retreat is where I would like to write and meditate.  I have dreamed of having a small "dollhouse" such as this one for many decades.  I used to make them for my sons and daughters although never so elegant as this one I want for myself.

Norweigan Leaning Tower of Slat Racks?.....by Diane Ogden

O -  M -  G  !

This is quite the site, isn't it? I have experienced this site several times in Madison, Wisconsin. And every time I experience it, my mind automatically suggests danger. Ya think? A slight wind, a slight miscalculation of the steering system, a sneeze, or God forbid another vehicle touches this Eiffel Tower on the roadway...I could be toast along with others. And would you take a look at the face in that side mirror? I am SORRY to say I expected it to be a South of the border face, you know, down Mexico way? (No offense of course) But indeed no. This was a true blue dumb donkey (butt) Wisconsinite. Even  an Okie I could have accepted this behavior from. Okie's don't be offended, it's merely from the jokes I have heard all my life and of course all the cars I have seen duct taped together in those parts, and of course my friend who pushes their old XR-7 in and out of the sun for the six large ferns they they store on its top! Now you get it? This guy must be Norwegian. They push their houses to start their furnaces. OK so that was a bad joke. My Dad told me that one years ago.
There must be money in carting around these slats stacked to the max. Doesn't it remind you of the people, (no not just the Chinese people), on bikes with mega huge bags of cans to return? Same story, different cargo. And as far as I could see there are only TWO straps on the sides holding this contraption together. The only word I could think of while sitting BEHIND it was....irresponsible...then I thought of myself and the effect of all that wood on my hood. Is that legal? It can't be! I'm not dissin the guy for trying to make a living but come on....this is an act only a squirrel crossing an electrical wire over a main highway would know about. Both are equally dumb, or maybe equally smart, depending on how one looks at it.
Let me just say until tomorrow......stay safe!    And get rich like me so you can give that man standing at the stoplight holding the cardboard saying he is down and out and would you / I help!  I get so anxious when that happens.  As it did an hour ago on my way home!

DuctTape..................by Diane Ogden

You know your a Redneck when you buy a new car and "forget" to put insurance on it! (DUMB)Or your a drug dealer and dont need insurance?? I bet the bank would love this one....but then their just thieves like the insurance companies anyway... And we are working hard to save their sorry donkey's, (butts) so this guy can buy duck tape while they get millions in free bonus money. Cynical? Me? No way, I just think they should invent colored duct tape... starting out with RED!

And they have... But when I wrote this blog post years plus back -  they had not invented red duct tape. I figure I have about 900 posts of which most people do not go back and read so I pulled this one out of the archives because I thought it was really funny.  That duct tape is dang amazing!  I hear it even kills wort's. Stick duck tape on your wort and it removes it.  Takes a month or so but it works.  Wonder what wonder chemical makes said happen.  And if the wort is anywhere personal please do not duct tape yourself in those areas.  Wouldn't be good.  (In case a Red-Neck is reading this)
So til tomorrow, be safe, be well, and stay healthy, and get rich so you can pay your car insurance and or buy hundreds of rolls of red duct tape in case you need it.

"Joby," ..............................A Short Story by Diane Ogden

It all started out as one of those adventure junket trips to an island far away for a weekend of something different and exciting. Sort of like the people that check in to the "game" Murder Hotel. Where you have to guess who the murderer is yet it seems so real... everyone dresses in character. This was very similar but on an island off South Viet Nam. We flew in and were escorted to our quarters that were less than I imagined. Lockers with our individual fatigues (interesting name for army outfits huh?) and helmets all put together with explicit detail. In fact one of the guests pulled out an extra helmet and for some reason he looked inside of it where he noticed something odd. He scratched off some crud covering a small area and as he did a name began appearing.....John Jungbluth Holt. What the hell? What? This is too weird! That was my Great Grandfather's name. He passed in World War II. This is supposed to be a fun and exciting little weekend trip including a war game. But come on, this sort of research done by people who merely set it up and gain a small amount of money isn't adding up. Our friend put the ghost helmet on and buckled it. Nothing was making sense and there was no turning back so he pressed on with us. We were given a vehicle several years old to do with what we purposed. Truly there weren't too many viable roads for its use. Danny, a part of our little junket trip, and our friend decided to take on the driving position. Me, I wanted to hit the depth of this adventure and go for the hills. The three of us did just that, with total naitivity in head and hand.
Maybe we forgot to read the fine print because we therefore entered the "fighting zone." Real and frightening, guns and terror. Ditches and dirty holes to protect ourselves in...and we did for an entire day and a half. Believe me we "knew" we had gotten into something way over our heads. Maybe the owners of this junket had stolen our identities and now were having us killed in this mock set up of a war zone. And we walked right into it. Oh God no one will ever find us.
The shooting had stopped long enough for us to feel safe to move on. To where? Survival had stepped in now and we just moved forward. Only to pass through a long terrifying cave and come out the other side to the old vehicle setting there in the middle of a field. Danny ran like a scared rabbit all the way to the car. I am screaming for him to stop as it might be wired to blow. He was out of control, ears and brain shut down...as was our other friends. Both youthful, and still long legged boys turned into men, (not quite.) Danny caught himself just as he reached for the handle...he backed up and grabbed a rock, threw it at the car several times. Nothing happened. He looked back at us as if to say, this is it no matter what. He reached for the door handle, opened it and got in. We ran quickly to our new found metal box. We drove across potholes and poor dirt paths when we came to what appeared to be a refugee camp. Tall fences, gates, one large building, and several tents. No guards. We drove into this complex as if we owned it. Definitely a change of attitude from our past couple days. Not to say there was no fear riding with us because there was. We reluctantly got out and left our metal refuge to enter one more possible refuge, or was it? Inside this building were many rooms of interest. A city inside a city. Very few people wandered about. Some seemed quite normal as if walking from home to school, or home to work... one women was babbling incoherently as she walked with two children. If she was part of "the game" she was a bad actor. She was saying "ga ga goo goo" and then say a couple rational words. I looked over at another woman who seemed quite normal to get some sort of reassurance, but when she caught my glance she exit-ed to what seemed no where. Were they secret passages, holes in the floor or what? We actually decided to leave because it was a to no where building. We ended up in a field, Danny sitting quietly in the car. I had discovered his ability to play this game we paid for wasn't his best quality in life. And I understood because "The Game" seemed out of touch with reality. But then wasn't it supposed to be? I suppose, but the danger we sensed did not appear to be in our imagination, rather real and intense. Suddenly I see a small figure of a human and I follow it. It is a child. A small boy child. He is dirty and sad and lost and dear God what sort of game is this? I pick him up into my arms and cradle him gently so as not to frighten him. Where is he from? Who would leave him out here alone? This is no game! I find I have wandered too far off from the guys... I carry "Joby," the name I called him, a long distance when I come to a ridge. The ridge is made of cardboard boxes and I have to climb it to get back to the car which I see in the distance. I must have gone the opposite direction in my adrenalin state after finding Joby, but at least it brought me full circle and almost back to the metal refuge. I sat Joby down and told him to stay I would be right back. I needed some help to get both of us through the maze of boxes. I ran to the car while continually looking back to make sure Joby was there. I screamed for Danny....I told him about Joby as quickly as I could. I said, "I want to take him home Danny." Danny sank in the seat as he turned his baseball cap to the side which told me he was still that long legged boy and not a man. I turned from him in my usual independent manner and sought after Joby on my own. When I reached the ridge Joby was gone. Once again a "man" had influenced me and I lost. I decided right then and there no man would ever again hurt my children or I. I was going to find little Joby and give him a home and love God willing I get out of this so called game and God willing Joby is real. There he is! He walking all alone in the field just beyond the ridge. I cried out for him, "Joby, wait, wait baby, Mama's coming."
Somehow I just knew he had no family. One of those Motherly instincts that kick in somewhere on an island off South Viet Nam. God if you get us out of this so called game I will never do this again...deal?" I scooped that little guy up and ran back to the ridge through weeds and bugs and dirt. We looked a mess and bloody at that. I climbed that cardboard barrier with all the force of a Mother saving her child from the rapids. Each step I took we fell back two or three. But again the adrenalin heaped onto me and from me gave nothing a chance for failure.
Then the fight was over. There was the metal refuge with the two scared little men sitting in it waiting for Ms. Warrior to appear. Surely they had no idea what had just transpired....no one did or so I thought. I placed Joby in the back seat center and then I climbed in myself. I told Danny to find us a way out of here now! He started to drive when a voice came over our radio and filled the car. It said, "Game is over, time up, you won the prize. Follow the road you are on 1.3 miles and then take the brown boulder cave to the exit ramps. Be careful as you cross the suspended bridge as it sways with the winds. Leave the car at the exit ramp. See you on the other side."
Now was that another frightening experience to experience? Or was it real? We had no choice, we followed the instructions. The suspension bridge was no picnic but we made it. I carried Joby all the way clutching him securely. He seemed like another part of me, attached at the heart we were. God forbid what was coming next? They would take him away wouldn't they? He was part of the game. Damn......
We arrived at the gates to a crowd of cheering people. What was this? Talk about Naive...I took the first prize for it that day. We found out "The Game" was all about Joby, a three year old boy who needed a home in America. The Game was about who would fight for this little man....and I won. I was crying at first out of fear and pain knowing deep down I couldn't take Joby home, he was part of "The Game." Then I was crying because I found out I could take him home. He was The First Prize and what a prize he is to this day. By the way, the name on the helmet? We were all researched by an adoption team from Europe so this game would seem more than real and even confusing. To see how we would operate under great pressure and even under what we presumed as dangerous conditions. I won....Determination and tenacity have always gotten me through this life, and now it gave me a new life. Joby.

I Met a Guy in "59........by Diane Ogden

Monday, October 22, 2007

I met a guy in '59,
He never handed me a line.
We've been friends for some 30 years,
Through thick and thin and many tears.
He had a marriage and several affairs,
And now is left with not many cares.
I went off and married twice,
Had five children who are very nice.
I had one child out of wedlock,
My life regressed to something like bedrock.
I didn't call him so he wouldn't know,
Or think of me for the seeds I did sow.
But I should have known better of my friend,
That his heart would be open and free to lend,
A shoulder, a word, a Moon to share.
But after it all, I wonder if I dare.
The wall I've built is thick and strong,
Even though I realize that's very wrong.
I'll open my heart to my dear dear friend,
But...give me more time for the wall to bend.
For my friend you are the best I've seen,
I wish I could have you and share a dream.
But I think I'll just sit and take some time,
To share with you some of my rhyme.
You've shared with me your deepest thoughts,
Something so special can never be bought.
So whether a friend, a love, or a heart to share,
Until and from, this day forth I will always care.
I wish I could remember your name.

The Rescue CR-V!.................by Diane Ogden

Yesterday I turned the "roots" of my hair orange-ish. So today I was on the other side of town in a salon sitting in a repair chair.
Then onto Culvers for a fast food Chicken Cashew Salad with FRENCH not Ranch dressing.  Do recall they like to give me the wrong dressing whalla I am lactose intolerant and get home with no dressing.  I have learned not to drive away without checking.  People from Mexico do not always catch the diff between F and R.  No offense.  Then home to relax.

Later today I was checking my emails and found one from Wilde Honda. There was an SUV listed that was exactly what I have been looking for.   So I emailed them.  Crimany my phone rang within two minutes.  Now that's a true car salesman, except you haven't heard anything yet.  He talks me into driving clear BACK to his dealership on the East Side of the City where I was sitting in the repair chair this morning.  That is from far West Side of Madison to Far Far East Side.  Not only that but they close at 5:00 and it was almost 4:00.  I told him I have a business and everything is still in my car from last week.  He said that was okay, he would help me move it all to the new vehicle.  I said, but .......and then I figured as long as the car is that full I might as well take the dog to.  And so I did.  We made it at 4:40, walked in the front doors and realized I didn't get the salesman's name.  It was at home on my computer, or was it?  So the reception girls tracked me on the Wilde Honda Computer system and found Jerry the salesman.  Jerry is an Asian fellow who combs his, might I add every black strand completely up in the air.  You know, toward the ceiling.  He must have cement on it to keep it shootin in the air like that.  And it isn't that short!  Picture that 8 x 10 glossy!
So I gave him my drivers license and we test drove it with the dog.  Its a nice little SUV.  I noticed the rear view mirrors reminded me of those squibbly ones at the fair.  CHEAP. Made me dizzy.  And then I noticed every little bump felt like I was in a jeep.  I am used to the Buick.  Jerry told me the Buick is a luxury car and that is why.  Humm.  Then what am I doing here.  We drove to Office Depot and dropped his wife off some $ so she could buy some gummy worms.  Seriously!  She had a craving for them and had to work late.  Oh- Kay.

Then comes the numbers crunching.  Which I wont even go into because it was a joke.  Car salesman turn into comedians at this point.

The interesting part of the entire experience is this.  I asked for the car fax vehicle history report.
I suspect I was drawn to this particular vehicle is because it is in my opinion "a rescue vehicle!"  Just like me to find a rescue anything.  From plants to animals to children, don't forget husbands, and now a vehicle.

It started out in Christiansburg, VA.  Then traded in at Bristol, TN. Then to the tri-cities of Johnson City, TN, onto Cookeville, TN. Then to Another dealer in Johnson City, TN.  To Monterey, TN, Onto Marian, IN purchased there by second owner....Sold one year later and in Irving, TX.  Then in 2013 sold at Auction in Chicago, IL.  Bought by Wilde Honda across town from ME! (only two owners, the rest dealers)   Now I figure that car has the wanderin' spirit on it!  I am sooo not a wandering person, maybe I need a little traveling bug? Not a VW but a bug under my donkey (ass) to move me a bit more.  I work and go home. I need a bug.
Yet I am rather apprehensive of anything that appears to need rescuing.  Even a vehicle.  So I put the dog back in the Buick and drove it home all the while noticing what nice clear side mirrors I have even though not heated....and how I didn't feel every crack in the road and there are many of those in my city.  They must need cash flow because the streets are bad in Madison.

I was asked to let them know if I wish to apply for "it" Monday morning.  I wonder if I will know if I want it by Monday morning.  Probably not.   I have a million dollars so why settle.
Be safe, be happy, be well, buy a nice vehicle, and get rich like me .....no worries.  Laters

Snow Angel.................by Diane Ogden

As long as it is still snowing here in Wisconsin, I decided to post one of my funny posts from 2010.

I was searching the web for a fairy bell (harmony ball) necklace...no not fairy balls! O' dear...look what I found.  Apparently the story is that his wife dressed him up like this, posted it and labeled it Snow Angel.
I think a bunch of our fellows should make the world a nice Snow Angel Calendar like the one the "older" ladies made in their birthday suits.   That was actually quite a lovely piece of work that created a lot of money for charity.  I thought that calendar was done in excellent taste. But then I also think the wife who dressed up her husband as the snow fairy was also done in good taste.  Just a little donkey (butt) action which is quite acceptable.

January in April in Wisconsin AGAIN!.............by Diane Ogden

Snow is only good for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and maybe a few snowplow service's. Oh and for skiers, and snowmobilers, and men who just got their new boy toy blowers, and tire stores, and overtime for city salt truckers, and sledders, and retired folks who do not have to drive or walk in it, and oh yes its good for Frosty the Snowman/women. Then there are the other people that too much snow might just cause issues for....ME! And my dog! She screams when she has been standing in snow for over 60 seconds, yet she wont poddie until she smells the podie of the other twenty dogs in the building. Too late, her feet hurt and she tears out back to the building screaming all the way and without poddie-ing. Back to the poddie pads.
This unreasonable snow in April is a pain in the "donkey". It belongs in the high mountains where people can go visit it vs it visiting us univited! I need to Google where the birds go in these overboard snowstorms and ice storms...... It is even cold in the house. Running the useless gas fireplace with no blower, a heater in the bathroom, a heater under my computer desk, and regular heat and it's still cold in here.... My two sons live in Los Angles! Need I say more. I wonder how much a UHaul cost these days. This MaMa is thinkin' hard if her "Lovely Lemon" could make it to Cali!
So until next time, be happy, be safe, be well, and get rich for sure.  And be thankful you live here and not N. Korea or the like.    Amen

Woodman's on Sunday or Any Other Day................by Diane Ogden

Woodman's is an employee owned company which means they can sell their food less expensive then other stores like Bob the Chairman at Copps where they are $1 higher on each product than Woodman's.  (On average in case Bob might read this) BUT that means the food stamp folks show up twice a month usually at the full moon stage meaning every derelict in the city is there pushing pulling screaming hollering honking and being rude at the check outs.   Today was bad (bad-donkey (ass)!)  Now I understand how two people and a car can start a riot.  They almost did today.  I was backing out of my stall where you cant see what is coming so you (I) go very slow.  Suddenly this little car with a little man is honking his sorry donkey off at me which in turn pee dissed me off so rather than stopping and pulling back in to allow Mr. Donkey to pass.....I continued to back out right toward them.  W e l l.... that didn't work so well..... Meaning the little man got mad and honked his horn over and over and over...then sped passed me but didn't get far.  Little man in Little car ran into road block city where people where loading their groceries...you know what they came here for.....and he got mad at another car in his way but that car got mad back and honked a continuous honk back at first donkey honker...and I am like omg there is a riot brewing.  Six or seven cars under the overhang loading up while other cars honking and making my anxiety level rise to the topster. It truly is "devil week" in America.  I shan't want to give that evil too much attention so I wont.  Ordinarily Woodman's is a decent less expensive place to shop with a few more than average shoppers.  I don't mind because I can read my magazines at the checkout due to being number five in line no matter what day or what time of day.  I just relax and read and if I am in the mood I find the longest line.  Its all good.  People Magazine, Soap Digest, (not so much those "if I'm lyin I'm dyin ones though. No those are nasty.) Although my Grannie used to love to read the Enquirer. I don't blame her.  When you get to be 85 where do you find any excitement?  Back then they didn't have porno as a regular station on TV.  Seriously!  It was the Enquirer and or the book Peyton Place which was no more than our evening news now a days.  Sad but true.  Might as well laugh at it best we can.  Now a days we are at "Fifty Shades of Grey," making scabillions $.  Notsogood but it is what it is.  Me, I am happy without whats his name Grey (of Fifty Shades) beating the crap out of me before, during, and after sex, and without having 23 children like the Dooggers,(sp) and not being a famous boob job housewife from Jersey or L.A., and I am happy not being related to the HoneyBooBoo's, and so on and so on.  I am Happy.  Don't forget I have a million dollars and I know how to use it.  At Woodman's.  So until the next time I run across someone crazy,  or something funny and happy,   Be safe, Be Happy, Be Well, and get rich like me so you can be happier.  Laters.

I Have One Million Dollars, Thank You!..................by Diane Ogden

The other day I got tired. Not your ordinary tired. The tired of being poor tired. So I stood in my abode and said, "I have had it with working so hard for what has been my forever without much reserve cash flow. No more, done, I have a million dollars. Thank you Universe." And so it is.

I am now a happier person. When you have a million dollars you are a happier person. I have signs on my refrigerator, all my doors, my bathroom mirror, on my steering wheel, on my car visor and wherever else my eyes and brain come together to view it.

The bathroom photo is funniest because I thought I was getting out of the photo when in truth I was moving into the photo. Mirror messed me up.

I am sure you are happpppy for me also. And I thank you.

So until my next little project or until I find something funny. See ya and I hope you get rich just like me.

A Clear Morning...............by Diane Ogden

This is an old 35 mm slide from my Grandfathers collection....1950's I think it needs photoshop color repair, but it reminded me of today and not 60 years ago. (I was barely alive if there is such a thing when Grandaddy took this photo with the latest and finest camera for sure)

It is 7:00 a.m. and time to take Gracie Allen outside which can be annoying some days as all who own dogs understand. But today was diff. No one in sight when at least one thousand live within this block of space on earth. I could call it "My Space," because it is and it especially was this morning. I lost track of the date, the time, and where I was. Why? I don't know exactly except it was euphoric like I hear a drug would be. Like Morphine before surgery.... Who was giving me this moment in time and why? The smell of the air held a meaning of such goodness and memory that I kept breathing it in as deeply as I could. I was asking the Universe what this meant or where it came from. I looked up into the specially blue sky only to see the moon in all its cratered glory looking at only me, telling me how much more there is that I cannot see with my human eye. Well I was willing to see it with my spiritual eye but that didn't happen...or maybe it did, only every other of my four senses plus was working overtime. Maybe I should have tried harder to just enjoy it instead of trying to remember it. Emotions came to visit also. I thought maybe it was a memory of another time when things were wonderful. Children bustling about, pancakes on the griddle, a soul mate offering and sharing.... It wasn't the same smell and feeling that I get from my Grandma's farm early in the morning from back in the 50's... No, this was clean, crisp but not cold, sunny but not hot, this was perfection. There was no place for worry, pain, fear, or any of the grey and certainly no place for any black on my block. I actually lost Grace for over a minute in time. Something I never do as she had no harness on this fine morning. I don't think Grace noticed the fairy like magic that had come over me but she did sit by my feet waiting for me to come back to the grey senses of this world which I really didn't do until I opened that front door. I didn't want to leave it. "It" being the total feeling of security where there is none. "It" being the total feeling of love where there isn't much of. "It" being the total feeling that no matter what everything is alright so just go with it......" Even if "It" was only the smell of a wonderful memory, but I know better! I received a gift from the moon? From the Universe? From God this morning during Gracie's podie time. How ironic. I am a very lucky person.

I suspect no one cares about Bob Ogden.  You know the rescue cat that has cost me near $600.00.  Don't fall over, I already have several times.. Once literally off the bench at the Veterinarian Office. Yup I was scootin back to tell Bob Ogden everything would be alright (actually affirming it to myself) when I scooted right off the end of the bench onto the large animal scale.  And no, no one came running over to see if the old girl was okay.  They did look over after the thud and the human yelp...  that is when I said, "I'm good!"  Sure.  Should have seen the bruises on my Donkey (ass) and arm the next day.  Back to my point about no one really caring about Bob Ogden.

It has been a good month now since my daughter brought him home from the "funny farm" where I was raised.  Someone dumped him there.  Probably because of the above paid Veterinarian needs.  He was peeing blood, full of ear mites, worms, eeww, and needed to be "de-manned."  I am sure I have left something out.   And we all know I already have a cat named Lucy.  A 6 lb. Pom Chi named Grace, and my daughters cat who is renting space until she gets an apt. of her own.  And now there is Bob Ogden.  (Who by the way is the best of them all)  Aside from his attack mode today.  You see I decided to let Bob and Lucy meet one another.

It was not like the dating game, nope, no way.  Bob took one good look at Lucy and attacked her after making a horrible sound which made her run like the wind.  He caught her hind area and I caught his at the same time.  We were quite the side show indeed.  Meantime my Grand daughter who was going to help was standing helpless where it all started.  Needless-to-say, Bob had to go back to his cell, you know the large bedroom with a large window, a large litter box, and a large flat screen TV.  And a cat window perch specifically for Bob Ogden.

What's my point?  I really don't have one.  I do have an animal issue and possibly need to vent somewhere.  Aren't you lucky.  I do not know how to introduce cats to one another especially when they all have mental issues.  That is because two of them came from the funny farm and the other from the humane society.  I need to learn to upgrade in all areas.  So for now I will do nothing major until I can make a decision I can live with.  That is the key!

And I will certainly try to find something more entertaining to post.  Until then, be safe, be well, be happy, and get rich so you can hire a cat therapist/behaviourist if you need one, and I do.  Amen

Snow Snow Snow in April................by Diane Ogden

Most of us in these here Northern parts of the country are sincerely over-done with winter.  Yet it just keeps coming back to visit us.  I found the post below from February 2011.... And that was much worse that what we have experienced this year!  How quickly we forget.  And thank Charles (God) and the Universe we don't live in China, or N. Korea but rather here with the pretty white snow that doesn't want to leave us.

Blizzard of 2011 at My Window!

So this is Little Gracie Allen in a head on search for a place to make a morning poddie! That poddie ended up smack dab in the center of this sidewalk obviously, like where else was there to go?
This event occurred at 9:00 a.m. February 2, 2011 and as it did occur my mind wondered to the newspaper man that "usually" enters the residence around 4:00 a.m. and considering I live in the "dog building," what residents may have attempted to help their dogs relieve themselves before 5:00 a.m. which is when I overheard the little man with his little toy truck clearing the walks. Did you ever notice that girls don't have boy toys when they grow up, you know like little baby bulldozers, and little baby Caterpillar type plows, and so on. I guess someone (The Women) has to be grown up but its still not fair. Back to my point? Where did those dogs go podie before 5:00 a.m? The garage? Could be!
The bottom photo is my apartment just to the left of the front door behind that humongous drift.
I would make a fair guess that this week of April 11th, 2013 will be the last seriously cold week of the year.
So until I come across something interesting or funny, stay warm.  Laters

Scoopin Poop..............by Diane Ogden

Every morning I scoop the litter boxes.  That would be two boxes now considering the add on recent rescue cat who lives in the spare bedroom until he is strong enough to fight the felines in the outter banks of his domain. (apt)

Yesterday I hadn't gotten dressed for work yet.  Had my nightshirt on while I was scooping poop in the spare bedroom.  I recall having an odd feeling.  Like someone was watching me but I ignored it.
By the way when I scoop poop I do not bend over properly due to a back injury.  In other words I don't bend my knees, rather I bend over with my donkey (ass) in the air, big as life, well it's not that big but not that pretty in that position either.  I finished scooping, stood up and danged if some guy wasn't walking his dog right outside that BIG window my butt was facing so vivedly.  I have no doubt that young man got a "birds eye" view of my donkey.  If I were a sweet twenty five year old it might have given him a thrill, but I suspect he rather said, 'eeeeww!

Guess he was scoping and I was scoopin!

Central Colony Madison, Wisconsin........by Diane Ogden

Oops, Typo. Meant to say Central Cat Colony at my place.  Allow me.  Christmas (my 19 year old cat) passed away several years ago.  Not long after that I was at the "funny farm" where I was raised. (that is what is wrong with me or at least I have something to blame it on) I was with Dad out by the shed when this emaciated little white feline came over to my feet and began rolling around on them over and over while crying.  I knew what she was saying, sooo I went into the shed and found an old red milk crate, put her in it , covered it with a dirty old piece of plywood, ran in the house and mummie dearest gave me a hunk of steak the size of my foot for her.  I placed it in the red milk carton (she ate the whole thang) and drove her home!  Took her to the Vet, got meds, got de-wormed, and two days later my daughters boyfriend came out from passing the litter and said, "OMG, that cat just shit a human turd!"  I just stood there in shock, then looked at it myself and sure enough, it was the size of that what he said, yes.  Must have been the footsized steak along with much more as she ate and ate and ate like she hadn't in a month.  Not to mention she has OCD from all that trauma.

Her eyes go round in circles thank God in only one direction.  And she cant be picked up, (only by young children) and me for a 20 seconds.  She will sleep next to me and sit on my computer desk but no picky uppie.  She loves me! I deal with her.  Then came LuLu. (I did not name her)

Someone threw this lil grey kitten into my daughters  car (so she says) and she brought it home.  In a few months she and LuLu moved out.  Then LuLu came back to my apt. a year later, left again for two years and came back Christmas of 2011 and is still here.  LuLu has a mean streak due to something. I suspect she was misused when she lived with a house full of single drinking people a while back.  She hisses, no one can pick her up, she chases Lucy down, but in the middle of the night I feel pressure on my chest and I open my eyes and her face is two inches from my nose. I would scream but she might hurt me.  So I have learned that is her safe time and place to knead her paws on the only secure person in her life, me.  And to suckle on my T-Shirt.  I said T-Shirt!!

And now?  There came Bob. Once again my daughter brought home another rescue from the "funny farm,"  even though I said NO!!  When I woke up there "it" was.  A very sick cat. I know the plan....call the vet. (cant take a sick cat to Humane Society or they kill it)  On the way to the Vet I named him BOB, Bob Ogden as I have said in previous blog posts.  And $600.00 later (the new camera I wanted) Bob is mine.  The truth is, Bob is the only sane one of the bunch.  (I left out the 6 lb. dog named Gracie Allen Ogden who has jealousy issues)

Problem is Bob has to live in the 2nd bedroom until he is all well so he can fight off the mental felines out here in the rest of his new apartment world.  So I go sit with Bob in the morning before work, when I get home, and then in the evening for another hour.  Oh, I also purchase liquid plug ins that calm cats. And they cost a lot.  But then so do meds at the mental hospital.  I have a mental hospital omg.  And how can I give away those two little cats that have depended on me for years, so Bob, the healthy one can stay.  What a dang mess.  But then it could be that I have three mental human men living here I don't know what to do with. Or three mental human children.  Sooo, given that being said, I am a damn lucky woman.  I have a few little critters that love me.  And I take care of them because that is my calling in life.  Being a caretaker.  (of mental cats omg)  It'll all work out.  Always does.  So until next time, be safe, be well, be happy, and get rich so you can take good care of your crazy critters. (and yourself) And of course I am exaggerating a LITTLE.

Family Ties Never Die...Cells have Memories! by Diane Ogden

This could be any one's family.  I have lived long enough to LEARN by listening and personal experience that the molecular makeup of our ancestors and living relatives----and their and our BLOOD (which probably is included in the word molecular makeup but considering I am not a physics person bear with me using our good old common sense) seems to have memories.  We have all heard the stories of the heart transplant patient suddenly liking to eat Liver or play golf when before the transplant no such likes.  Its the molecular make up of the person whose heart you received.  We humans usually only "see" what is in front of our faces...  Such as "Oh he looks so much like his Daddy!"  What we don't see are the unseen, the things seen in so many other ways.  My son makes facial expressions that his father made yet he never met his father until his fathers funeral 60 years later.  In other words we not only look alike on the outside but the inside too.  That is why I am posting a photo of two girls who are sisters but have never met.  Both went to Prom. Both chose the same color and style dress. Both wear their hair very similar...  Yet have never met.  They both work in the same type job.  One loves Stars and the other had Stars tattooed on her back and the list goes on.  I am not so sure cells ever die, or should I say I believe the soul has molecular makeup that is passed on. Obviously this is not the best example of my point, yet its a seed that is planted in your mind that will bring forth other examples of proof in the future.  Or maybe you knew this and its a confirmation.
They are both in similar Red Dresses....Similar Hairstyles.

So until I find more DNA fun facts (remember I have all my molecular's hanging on the walls behind and around my desk.  All the way back to the 1700's. One would think they would be giving me a tad more inspiration wouldn't one?
So Be Well, Be Happy, Be Safe, and Get Rich, I am going to have a million soon.  Its just easier, and a different way to get inspired.  Laters
