Christmas Kitty died tonight. January 30th, 2008. He gave us many years of love and companionship. In fact the vet told me their records say he came to their office for the first time in 1988. The vet came to our home and euthanized him here, then laid him on the floor so the other animals could come and see what was going on or what had just happened. She took him with her to be cremated and returned to us. She went above and beyond the call of duty. We will miss our Christmas Buddy.

It is like a slice of heaven in my apt. I am serious. I had peace the minute I walked in after the euthanization. So I started checking emails and ate my bowl of ice cream and answered some emails and then out of no where started singing "Amazing Grace" No kidding...So I just let it keep coming...and singing.. Do you think Angels came for him? Or is he here and saying thank you, I was so sick. Peace is all about. I asked my daughter Lins if she had this peace and she said YES....she said it feels like we don't have any problems. I agreed 190% with that statement. Strange and good all at once. If I had to put it in words.......light, LIGHT, bright light, soft, clouds, morphine before surgery, clean rain, no evil, lavishly rich, no needs, cool fountain on a hot day, splashing, love, velvet, clear bubbles, fresh air, oxygen from God, healing, flourishing cells, the smell of a new car, a warm blanket, the sun on new fallen snow, pansies, a beating heart, Life, your soft fur, your soft purr, your loyalty. Truth, blue eyes, a diamond, an old spirit, a young one, all adds up to "Peace that Passeth Understanding." Thank You "Christmas Buddy!" Or the Angels that came for you and left us with not only your memory but a gift of Peace from that memory that will last us forever.

Sisters

Bree Hull

Well would you look at this? These two sure do look alike to me. I wonder if they will hook up like some sisters that have found one another after many years? Or maybe they won't bother. Or maybe if Nana leaves it alone they will make it work on their own. Briana Marie and Danielle. (I dont know Dani's middle name) I better find that out.
Interestingly Bree, we call her, has another sister named Danielle who is also 19 years old.
So getting used to that part wont be so unusual.
Bree is fair skinned and it appears Dani is darker skinned. Bree has allot of allergies
and asthma when she gets a cold. Bree has a dark side she tells me. I think all teenagers do. She is a grand actress but she cant sing a whole song on key. We have to laugh at that. She loves socceer but had to quit due to shin splints. She is quite the artist and loves all sorts of creativity. Sewing, painting, writing, anything but cleaning. Bree loves mega soft beds. And Bree loves Steve. Steve is a rock and adores Bree so we adore Steve. Bree is a very sensitive young woman and was even as a child. If she cried her whole face turned spotted and red. She has a wonderful laugh and the most beautiful thick hair that tends to have more waves than she would like so she works very hard to straighten it. Her Dad's hair was wavy before he shaved his head due to age and hereditary baldness. Bree loves animals especially cats. She wants a car more than anything right now. Bree is a person that goes with the flow. She graduated from Barbizon Modeling and Acting School. She is a natural actress. I have posted some of her acting photos.

I do hope the girls find their way to meet or at least do the MySpace "thing." After all they are sisters. And they sure do look alike. Bree is 16 and Dani is 19.

Nineteen Years Late'r

I received an invitation to a MySpace site a few days ago. It was from this beautiful young woman named Dani. She is the Granddaughter I have never met. And the other photo is her Father who she has never met her but once when she was three.
I missed the hugs and kisses and overnight stays. I missed the shopping days and buying princess clothes, putting her hair up with ribbons, getting her nails done for no reason. The zoo. Telling her the secrets I have learned from and about life. Sharing my heart. I missed Homecomings, Proms, and maybe sooccer games or school plays or just Halloween costumes. I missed her more days than I can remember. She is my first Granddaughter ever. We never got to stir and bake cookies, make Valentines, or watch movies, read even one book. We have the same blood.
I did not get to babysit or meet her brothers. I didn't get to show her how much she is loved no matter what age. I think she has her Grandpa Joe's dimples. And the beautiful family smile for sure. She'll never get to see Grandpa's herd of cows or goats or chickens because they are gone with time. I hope she gets to hear his childhood stories and his wonderful laugh. He is 83 so we don't have nineteen more years. I hope she gets to meet all her aunts and uncles and great aunts and uncles and cousins. If not I will still love her from afar and hopefully get to watch it thru MySpace. Because now she has invited me to HerSpace.

His Name is Christmas and He's 19!

Christmas Buddy a few weeks old

What a little man he is and sometimes quite the King of the house. Well not so much anymore, but in his day he ruled. Now he moves very slowly and needs some help, such as his own chair to get up onto the bed. Why he's been better than any man I ever married. This one stuck with the program to the end... Christmas Buddy sleeps at the top of my bed near my face. I dare not use too much face cream or I wake up looking like the abominable snowman! Eeeww. And if I turn over he wanders to the other side facing my face. I wake up on occasion and put my hand on him to give him reassurance. Maybe myself too. He has grown up with my children, especially my 19 year old daughter and 19 and 16 year old Granddaughters. Not to mention my 25 and 28 year old sons.
I watch him wondering if his quality of life is for me or him anymore. He sleeps 20 out of 24 hours a day. He sometimes gets lost in the shower starring at the wall meowing. Don't worry I get him. My Vet has told me twice (three years ago and one year ago) that he was in kidney failure. NOT! Got him some antibiotics and whalla he was trottin' around the house and enjoying some "huchie," catnip silly, on occasion. They even put him on IV fluids which I learned to do quickly. I gave him fluids every other day, (they said daily) and he still watered from his eyes and mouth...DUH, he was over fluidized! Again he was fine. Yes I am changing vets even after all these years. He likes his food more on the liquid side anymore but I can do that. I buy special litter that is lightweight and special litter that turns color if he has a bladder infection. Christmas loves Christmas because he hears his name on TV and from people passing by as well as his family. He has lived through several political elections, he's a liberal by the way, and 16 Proms and around 12 Homecomings, and five major moves, an in-house daycare for fifteen years, and four new vehicles. All went away, as well as his two buddies, Cody and Chris moved to California. He remembers them when they walk in and hold him like a baby. He has survived a sister that lived to be fifteen named PeeWee, yes after PeeWee Herman before he did his naughty. Obviously we got them on Christmas 1988. PeeWee's Playhouse was big on the charts. I found a stray cat named Lucy last year. Lucy is around two years old. Christmas puts up with her and can still hold his own, although I keep an eye out on them. They have never been declawed which has rarely been a problem. Can you imagine an active two year old girl wanting to play with a 99 year old man. It is funny because they just sit and swipe paws back and forth like taking turns. But they don't touch each other...just swipe..... I guess I am writing this because I know the time is drawing near that I will have to go on living without my best friend.

The Christmas Star

The Christmas Star was under the tree for me this year from my Mother. She wore it on her wedding day in 1946. It was given to her by her Mother when she was 13 years old. It is a beautiful Marcasite Star that has weathered 64 years in the jewelry box as I doubt it was worn very much all the years. The folks also weathered all those years outside the "box." Dad is now 84 and Mother is 79.

Three of My Beautiful Children

The two boys are in Los Angeles and the girl missed her flight but is headed in that direction also.

A True Christmas Story

I met little Dani when she was eighteen months old living in an old apartment building above the river. She was standing on the window sill with no screens or guards, only the glass with the water below. Her little face was all dirty, her hands were sticky and her hair uncombed like most little kids. My son was dating her Mother and continued to do so for a few years. When Dani was eight years old, the only Father she ever knew no longer lived with her. There was a new man in the house. And then another new man in the house. This man did not like Dani and he showed it. He was verbally abusive to her for seven long years. Only one teacher believed her story but was unable to offer any sort of positive help because by this time Dani had developed her own self protection plan which wasn't working so well. She was seeing the world through abused eyes which was making her also abusive even though she could not see it. Of course she couldn't. Nothing she did at home was right, nothing. She was called horrible names, accidentally on purpose hit with car doors and spaghetti poured over her head. Tin cans put in her bed under the covers for her a surprise landing. That because she forgot to throw hers in recycle. Not allowed to use the family computer, not allowed to eat certain foods because they only belonged to him. And much more. All this brought about a personal self defense in every circle of her life. Friends began to see her lack of self confidence and bully her. Then the fighting began and the tickets. Self defense wasn't alright in the little town with no pity where she lived. Most little towns are like that. The police officers were young with no children and uninformed to the needs of teenagers. So the tickets mounted which made it impossible for Dani to take the required driving classes in High School. Then the anxiety set in severely. When a person feels they have no safe direction to turn their body screams FLIGHT. FIGHTING didn't work out so flight was the only other option with no counseling help, or other adult intelligent intervention. No one believed her because she was sounding out of control. Not using any sort of controlled strength to communicate with the authority figures that could help her. Add to that the fact the live in boyfriend was a master at conning the police and the one lonely social worker with his office at the little town police station, who wouldn't listen. The calls to 211 to find a place for a 17 year old to live. There are no places for them....in fact I heard the streets are full of homeless 17 year olds. Dani could no longer attend school due to anxiety. She would break down if anyone even starred at her. She ended up staying at home all day every day. No one got her into the home-school computer program, so she just sat around all day. She made friends with a young boy when she discovered they had much in common. He was raised in an abusive home also, where his Mother's boyfriend mistreated him. A drinking family so we heard. The two of them stuck very close as the year passed. Dani was allowed to graduate, even though not attending enough school to legally make that seem possible. But she did anyway and the school gave her the option of walking for her diploma with the rest of her class. Obviously she was not able to do so due to the anxiety issues. Her Mother had gotten her on many different medications from a doctor who gave Dani samples of brain, anti-depressant meds. When he would run out of one he would start her on another. We know changing brain medications can be as hazardous as taking them. They made her angry, confused, and as anxious as ever. She could not work, or even walk into WalMart at this point. Abuse has a way of killing a person's spirit and it had almost killed hers. I forgot something here. She can sing like a bird. Or at least like Aguilira and Spears and more, maybe better. But with what confidence will that work? Dani moved out of the house where the "B" man lived(boyfriend) and into the fire with her long time friend Brandon. He got a job at a fast food restuarant and they found a roommate. Dani stayed home with her cat all day everyday. She had applied for State disability and was waiting to hear a decision, although all she wanted was to be normal. Meantime their roommate leaves and stress mounts. Fast food places only pay $5.00 and a few cents an hour which makes it fairly tough to pay rent, utilities and buy food. Then the circle of abuse found an opening once again in the life of the little girl who once stood on the dangerous window sill over the river. In fact they abused each other both in different ways. Verbal from Dani and physical from Brandon. Dani had no where to go, no money to get there, and fear kept her trapped in the dangerous cycle. She begged for help from various people and places. No one would take her with her cat. Her cat had also come from an abused home therefore Dani felt an enormous responsibility to make sure the cat was safe and secure also. Dani was now eighteen and a half, and one day while surfing the Internet she decided to put her Dad's name in the Google Search Bar......there he was, top of the page, name, address, and phone number. UNREAL! Yet who was he? Was he really her Father? Her Mother has always told her he was not her real father even though he paid for her all of her life. Sometimes Mothers feel a secret need to protect in the wrong ways. Sometimes unintentionally and other times not. Her mind was swirling so fast and uncomfortably she decided to let it go. Nothing in her life had been any good so far so why would this be any different? Dani had left this bit of information at my house and with little or no thought I contacted this man. He was shocked at the phone call and shocked at my boldness in asking him where the heck he had been all her life. We exchanged some difficult talk and then settled in on helping Dani. I told her of my phone call to him and they began corresponding by mail. He actually had her birth certificate in his possession which he sent her. And he had been in the delivery room when she was born, had photos of he and Dani's Mother eighteen years past. We attended a first meeting with Dani's Father and his live in partner Jessica and it went beautifully. In fact it was like an Oprah moment right there at that Cracker Barrell restaurant on the Interstate! Later we attended a family reunion which was a tad uncomfortable for a girl with anxiety issues. But it was a beginning. Nearing the end of the year the abuse between Dani and her boyfriend became unbearable to the point he told her she had to leave and now! The landlord agreed because Dani was not on the lease so.....homeless. I called her Dad and told him of the situation, even though I was afraid it was too soon for him to feel comfortable to intervene on her behalf. Well, he did and in a mighty way. He drove an hour and a half in his truck with his Uncle and Nephew and they moved Dani out of that abusive circle in a few hours. They stored her belongings and left Brandon with only a bed and a small sofa. Too bad! Dani and her cat and all her belongings moved in with her birth Father and Jessica. The first few days were not easy, in fact the first thing that happened is her cell phone had no reception whatsoever which made her feel cut off from everything in life she ever knew be comfortable be that good or bad. Again, her Dad sensed her discomfort and surprised her by driving her to the local cell phone store and buying her a wonderful new cell phone with good reception. Then they went car shopping and he bought her all new clothes and is paying off those nasty fighting tickets she got trying to defend herself from the bullies in High School . And he told her he had tried to see her when she was growing up but was told no by her family, that it wouldn't be a good thing. He has stepped up and saved his daughter and in doing so has done the one thing little girls need. He validated her existence. And she has since been approved for disability so she can get proper medical treatment for her condition and get herself back out into the world. Next you will see her video on UTube and then in lights. Be watching because she is on her way. From the Sh__t Pit to the clouds!
